LAUSANNE, January 27, 2020 – The race towards the 83rd AIPS Congress and 2nd AIPS Sports Media Awards Ceremony has now reached the final straight.

In a week, AIPS will finally inaugurate its long-awaited events in Budapest. From the highest sphere of the AIPS structure - the EC Members - to all the protagonists of the Awards, as well as the numerous delegates and observers representing the national associations, this three-day meeting will showcase the most international debate on sports journalism. The Corinthia Budapest Hotel will host the activities.

AIPS has prepared a packed programme, including presentations and panel discussions that will last from February 3 – 6, 2020.

The kick-off day starts with the AIPS EC meeting in the morning. Then in the afternoon, ‘AIPS Meets Gianni Infantino, FIFA President’ inside the Grand Ballroom of the Corinthia Hotel, which will later become the stage for the scintillating Awards Ceremony of the AIPS Sports Media Awards in the evening.

The Awards gala will be broadcast on national television by Antenna Hungária channel. Furthermore, a live stream on Facebook will be available for the second time after Lausanne 2019.

During the show, the podium places for each category will be revealed, alongside the winners of Young Reporter Under 30 categories, and the chosen journalists for the AIPS Special Awards: “Investigative Reporting” and “A life in Sport”.

The 83rd Congress will offically open in the morning of February 4th and it will be preceded by the meetings of the Continental Sections. Representatives from World Athletics, IJF, FINA, UEFA, FISU, EHF and the International Fair Play Committee will then present the latest developments regarding their organisations.

Part of the afternoon will also be dedicated to a discussion on investigative journalism, where a panel of experts will shed light on the most relevant issues affecting such a delicate branch of journalism.

On day two of the congress, the Governor of River State (Nigeria), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, will speak about the Real Madrid Academy of Port Harcourt, after which presentations from the IOC, the Olympic Channel, IFBB, FITEQ and FIDE will follow, alongside two other panels: “Sport for Youth” and “Empowering women in sports journalism”. Last but not least, the AIPS Young Reporters will take the floor to share with the audience some insights regarding recent Young Reporters programmes, including first-time experiences in Africa, South America and Saudi Arabia.
