Već 37 godina AIPS Europe (Udruga sportskih novinara Europe) objavljuje najbolje sportaše Staroga kontinenta. Glasovi se zbrajaju od novinara u europskim redakcijama, koji su glasali za sportaše godine u izboru Svjetske udruge sportskih novinara.
 
Rafael Nadal drugi je put najbolji, ponovio je uspjeh iz 2008., doke je Katinki Hosszu ovo treća titula najbolje, nakon istoga uspjeha 2016. i 2017. Iza Nadala su ostali Juventusov nogometaš Cristiano Ronaldo i prvak F1 Lewis Hamilton, dok je Hosszu nadvisila talijansku biatlonku Dorotheu Wierer i britansku atletičarku Dinu Asher Smith. Na popisu su svoje mjesto našli i hrvatski najbolji sportaši - dvaput Blanka Vlašić, a lani Luka Modrić.
